Education & Training

Initial Orientation

Success of an organization is based on the success of its employees.  Southeastern Med understands employees who succeed are equipped with the appropriate resources to do so.  Beginning with the interview, employees are provided with information to understand the history and current standing of the facility.  New associates are scheduled to attend two days of orientation to the medical center.  This orientation helps the associate understand his or her general responsibilities as an employee of the medical center.

Associates then enter an orientation to their new department and position.  These associates are responsible to complete a skills assessment and have completion and mastery of the skill verified by an appropriate staff member.  Staff are also assigned to a preceptor so they can become acclimated to the general routine of the Medical Center while under the guidance of a current associate.  After approximately 90 days with the medical center or in their new role associates are evaluated by the department’s supervisor or director.  Annual evaluations are then conducted on each associate, allowing an interactive discussion on performance, goals, objectives, and initiatives for the next year.

Continuing Assessment & Education

As employees of the medical center, associates are responsible to maintain continued competence in their position and department.  The Education Department of Southeastern  Med coordinates population specific programs, position specific programs and annual assessments for staff.  Other more detailed programs and assessments may be created within the individual departments.  Many on-going assessments can be completed online while others require hands-on demonstration.

To assist associates with completion of the online assessments, Southeastern Med has provided staff with the option to use our computer lab.  The computer lab is fully equipped with the latest software and fiberoptic hi-speed access to the internet.

Other educational opportunities are also available for staffing, including online nursing education access, BLS, ACLS, and TNCC for nursing personnel; introductory and intermediate training for office programs; and access to continuing education workshops, seminars, webinars, and conferences.

Tuition Assistance & Certification

Southeastern Med has developed a tuition assistance program to assist eligible associates with continuing their education to obtain an associate or bachelor degree in an approved area.  Completion of the degree and/or obtaining a subsequent licensure from an appropriate licensing agency is seen as benefiting the associate’s individual career development but also the overall success of Southeastern Med.

Associates are also encourage to obtain specialty certifications in the area in which they work.  Certifications include CCRN, CNOR, and CPAN.  Reimbursements and compensation are available for qualifying areas.
