Why volunteer at Southeastern Med?
Our volunteers are valued members of our healthcare team. Volunteers perform a great service to all of us by saving us steps and time, while giving that extra special touch to patient care.
Because we consider our volunteers as “non-paid associates,” we provide many benefits to our volunteers, including:
- Free meal
- Discounts in the gift shop, pharmacy, and sundries
- Free flu and pneumonia vaccines
- Opportunity to learn new skills or brush up on old ones
- Service award programs and special dinners
- Educational programs, including computer classes
- Participation in:
- Associate assistance program
- Associate recognition program
- Associate suggestion program
What do volunteers do?
Volunteers touch the lives of all who enter Southeastern Med’s doors. The welcoming, helpful attitude of a volunteer can significantly impact a patient’s stay at the medical center. Some volunteer opportunities include:
- Greeting visitors and giving directions
- Escorting patients to their rooms or the appropriate department
- Spending time with patients in need of support
- Acting as a liaison between staff, patients, and family members in the emergency room, intensive care and surgery departments
- Assisting patients and staff on patient care units
- Delivering flowers and cards to patients
- Clerical duties, including typing, copying, filing, mailings, etc.
- Operating our shuttle, which transports our customers to our entrance and back to their cars.
- Special projects, including information packets, first aid kits, promotion items, etc.
- More!
