CAMBRIDGE, Ohio, May 18, 2011 – Nagging pain in the hip and knee forces more than 500,000 people to undergo joint replacement surgery each year. And for years, doctors asked younger patients to live with the pain to avoid revision surgery a decade down the road. Those days are officially over.
Corey A. Jackson, DO, orthopedic surgeon at Southeastern Med, now offers a solution called Verilast Technology. It’s a metal alloy – oxinium – that has the feel of a ceramic and is supported by new FDA approved evidence. This smoother surface allows less scratching and less wear. It can last 30 years, while the old chrome cersion lasted just 15. And simulations show, after three decades the alloy has 81 percent less wear than three years of the chrome.
