Some History of Veterans Services Concerning the acquisition of Hearing Aids through the VA
Years ago the VA took the lowest bidder for Behind the Ear hearing instruments and primarily fit all veterans. That policy was followed for many, many years, the instruments were not of the highest quality and few adjustments could be made.
Within the most recent years (around 6) the VA has amazed most of the hearing industry by dispensing some of the most sophisticated highest technology instruments on the market today. These new fittings have produced a noticeable growth in the hearing aid benefit offered by the VA, and are solely responsible for growth in the entire hearing aid industry.
Veterans must get hearing aids through the VA, Clear Hearing Gallery cannot provide veterans with hearing aids, but we highly encourage any veteran who is eligible, to investigate the possibility of receiving this valuable benefit, no matter how far you have to drive, or wait. The instruments that I have currently seen and adjusted have a retail value of $4000. to $6000. a pair. We think that if you divide those numbers by the hours you have invested that you would agree that the time and trouble is well worth it.
Once fit, because of the high technology, literally hundreds of adjustment can be made for sound quality, clarity, loudness tolerance, and physical fit, usually accomplished by computer programming. The time and trouble to initially obtain the instruments can now propose a real problem just to have an adjustment.
The Clear Hearing Gallery
Has the computer software of the companies we have seen the VA fit for the veterans. The Gallery charges for adjustments, reprogramming, and for modifications of the shells. The amount, according to what has to be done, can vary from $5.00 to $25.00 and there is no charge for sending in an instrument for warranty repair or screening to establish pure tone hearing thresholds to aid in reprogramming. We can adjust any aspect of the way the instrument sounds and it’s physical fit, including sending an instrument in for repair if it is currently under warranty. We invite you to join the veterans we currently service.
