| Southeastern Med Physical Therapists Earn Highest Distinction The American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) has awarded specialist certification in orthopaedics to four of the physical therapists at Southeastern Med’s Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation: Dominic Crock, PT, DPT, OCS Shannon Mitchell, PT, DPT, OCS Ryan McConkey, PT, DPT, OCS Joseph Ogle, PT, MPT, OCS Obtaining Board certification is a voluntary, rigorous process that sets these therapist apart as experts in their field of specialty. In order to be considered, candidates must first submit evidence of required clinical practice in a specialty area. The candidates must then pass a rigorous written examination, demonstrating specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency in that specialty area. This examination historically has a 60% pass rate. Southeastern Med is extremely proud to have four physical therapists on staff that decided to pursue and successfully attain this prestigious honor. There are currently 6710 licensed physical therapists in Ohio and only 95 of them are Board Certified Specialists in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy. This equates to 1.4% of the physical therapy profession in Ohio holding this honor and four of these physical therapists are located at Southeastern Med in Cambridge, Ohio. Board Certified Specialists are considered experts in their field of specialty and should be the top choice when choosing a healthcare provider. |
PHYSICAL THERAPY Our physical therapy is delivered by licensed physical therapists who diagnose and treat patients of all ages who have medical problems or other conditions that limit their ability to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. Southeastern Med has 4 physical therapists with national specialist certification in Orthopaedics, a prestigious honor only 1.4% of the physical therapy professionals in Ohio holds. OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY Our occupational therapists offer services to individuals of all ages. They service infants and children with developmental delays or difficulty in school, as well as the adult or elder who has an injury or disease that is affecting their ability to function. They focus on the broad range of activities that make up a client’s life, treating the person as a whole. Our skilled staff recognize that not all patients are the same and they take pride in establishing individualized treatment plans in order to ensure quality care. Our occupational therapy department also offers the only Vision Clinic in Southeastern Ohio. |
| ATHLETIC TRAINING SERVICES Athletic Training services are provided by nationally certified and Ohio licensed athletic trainers, with Masters and Bachelors level preparation and experience with professional athletes. Our athletic trainers perform prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of all athletic injuries to local high school athletes, covering all home events and practices. They also assist the physical therapists in the Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center with rehabilitation of patients. They are an integral part of our pre-work screens and work re-conditioning programs for our industrial patients. They developed and run our Performance Enhancement Program, or PEP, designed to increase athletic performance of local athletes. The are in charge of our PLUS program, or Physical Activity Link Under licensed Supervision, to assist patients with their overall well being after they have been discharged from Physical Therapy. They also teach our Pupil Activity Permit (PAP) class for local coaches to meet their Ohio requirement. |
| LEAP (LIFE ENHANCEMENT ACTIVITY PROGRAM) LEAP is a program designed to help individuals meet their fitness goals. This program consists of one on one sessions with Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Joshua Knott, MA, ATC, CSCS. Joshua will help participants get stronger, faster and become more physically fit. |
| INPATIENT PHYSICAL THERAPY Inpatient physical therapy treats a variety of patients. These patients may have a fracture, a total joint replacement, a stroke, or general weakness from illness. Physical therapy works with the patients to increase strength, safety, balance and independence in walking. Physical therapy works with nursing, physicians, and Quality Case Management to meet the patients’ discharge needs. |
INDUSTRIAL REHABILITATION Our therapists work in partnership with the staff at WorkPro in providing services to area employers. These services include: - Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)
- Ergonomic Assessment & Training
- Work Conditioning
- Post-offer screens
- Ergonomic workstation evaluations
FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY EVALUATIONS (FCE) A FCE is a two-day exam that objectively identifies the current physical capabilities of an injured worker. This information can then be used by caseworkers, employers and doctors to determine return to work capabilities. ERGONOMIC ASSESSMENT & TRAINING An ergonomic analysis is performed of a particular job to identify potential hazards that may lead to a work-related injury. WORK CONDITIONING This program usually lasts between four and eight weeks and consists of a daily therapy program beginning at one hour per day and may increase up to four hours per day. The goal of the program is to improve the injured workers overall physical capacity and expedite return to work. POST-OFFER SCREENS A post-offer screen is a physical test that is performed to a potential new hire and simulates the physical demands of the job that has been offered to them. A job analysis is required in developing the screen. ERGONOMIC WORKSTATION EVALUATIONS FUNCTIONAL JOB ANALYSIS AND JOB DESCRIPTION A job analysis will identify the physical demands of a particular job title. This objectifies what the employee is required to do to perform the job and is summarized with a Functional Job Description. |
